Every surface, arch and steps alike, is cut with runes in a language no one in Vulture's Vineyard can read, worn shallow by centuries of mountain weather but never quite erased. A soft, rhythmic humming hangs around the monument, felt in the teeth as much as heard, and the air above the dais shimmers faintly on cold mornings.

			The arch was here before the town, before the vineyard, before anything anyone can name. The locals neither fear it nor love it; they simply leave it room, the way you'd leave room for a sleeping bear. Grape vines grow to within twenty paces of the dais and no closer, and no bird has ever been seen to land on it.
