A Ledger Kept Apart
Wedged behind a leaning shelf, its cover swollen with old damp, you find a heavy ledger. Most of it is exactly what you'd expect, ordinary sales, ordinary seasons, until near the back the entries change. A column starts up marked simply "mine," bottles logged but never shipped, never sold, set apart from everything else the winery ever bottled.
Whoever kept this took it seriously enough to hide it. The deeper you read, the more it points the same direction: toward the cellar's oldest, most sealed-off corner.
