Carla Pebbrust
Carla Pebbrust is an elderly Dwarven Sorcerer, and for longer than most of the town has been alive, she has kept a tent within sight of the Ancient Stone Arch. Years ago she served at the House of Sanctuary, a Sorcerer among Clerics who never quite fit the vestments; one morning she packed her things, walked to the eastern edge of town, and never came back. She won't say what called her to the arch, only that "somebody ought to be listening." The townsfolk call her "The Old Sorcerer at the Arch," a title she finds delightful.
For all her strangeness, Carla is the warmest welcome on the east side of town. Travelers coming through the pass find a basket of sweet fruits and fresh bread waiting outside her tent, replenished daily, no payment asked. She is fiercely independent and flatly refuses help of any kind; offer to carry her water and she'll thank you kindly and carry it herself, twice as far, to make the point. Her sorcery is respected town-wide, and locals make the walk east when they need advice that Clerics can't give.
She has watched the arch through more nights than she'll admit, and she hums constantly as she works, a low, rhythmic tune she doesn't seem aware of. Stand between her and the arch, and you'll notice the two of them are humming the same song.
