Isolde Nightbriar

An Elf with a smile that never quite reaches her eyes, especially around the Hero. She measures herself against them constantly and always comes up feeling shorted, and she's learned to turn that itch into small, deniable cruelties: a rumor let slip at the wrong moment, a compliment that's really a dig, credit for a Hero's success quietly redirected toward herself. She wouldn't set out to hurt the Hero physically, but if it happened while she was busy embarrassing them, she wouldn't exactly mourn it either.

To everyone else, she's warm, clever company. Only the Hero ever sees the edge underneath it.

Event

Roll 1d6 to see how Isolde shows up today.

Roll 1d6 Result
1 Offers a compliment that's a little too pointed to be entirely kind, and moves on before the Hero can respond.
2 Mentions, apropos of nothing, something the Hero would rather she hadn't noticed.
3 Lets an unflattering detail about the Hero slip to whoever's nearby, then acts as if she hadn't meant to. Make a Social(1) Skill Check to laugh it off cleanly; failure adds 1 Dice-Black-Icon.png.
4 Quietly takes credit for something the Hero recently did, right in front of them, daring them to object. Make a Social(1) Skill Check to set the record straight without a scene; failure and the credit sticks.
5 Arranges to be seen succeeding at something the Hero recently failed at, timed perfectly for them to notice. Add 1 Dice-Black-Icon.png, no check, the sting is real even though nothing was technically done wrong.
6 Finds a moment alone with the Hero and can't resist getting a real dig in. Full Confrontation, see below.

Full Confrontation

Make a Social(2) Skill Check.

  • Success: you deflect her with a sharper reply than she expected, and for once she's the one who looks foolish in front of whoever's nearby. +1 Success Bonus on your next Skill Check today.
  • Failure: her jab lands clean, and it stings enough that others notice. Add 1 Dice-Black-Icon.png.

Instead of letting it go, the Hero can call Isolde out on it directly. Make a Mind(2) Skill Check.

  • Success: she has no comeback ready for once, flustered enough to make an excuse and leave. +1 Success Bonus, no further effect.
  • Failure: she doesn't take being confronted well, and for the first time it turns physical.
