Dicey Dangers, Core Rule Game by Joel Hills

Pinkeye

Pinkeye is a Chronicle keyword. It marks a hero who has been fully consumed, no longer the person they were, now something else wearing that person's body. A hero with Pinkeye has a faint, steady red glow where their eyes used to be, visible to anyone who looks closely. It is not hidden and cannot be concealed by ordinary means. Unlike most Chronicle keywords, Pinkeye does not describe a change happening to the hero. It describes a change that has already finished happening.

How to Gain Pinkeye

Pinkeye is gained through specific encounters and events defined in adventure content. It cannot be purchased, chosen at character creation, or transferred between heroes. Pinkeye has no stack count. It either applies or it does not.

Mechanical Effects

  • Gain the Fighter keyword.
  • The weapon or item responsible for Pinkeye can never be voluntarily dropped or replaced. It stays equipped for the rest of that hero's story.
  • Content across all adventures can check for the Pinkeye keyword and trigger alternate outcomes when it is present.

Removing Pinkeye

Pinkeye cannot be removed. Remove Curse has no effect on it, and no other method exists. This is intentional. Pinkeye is not a punishment to escape, it is a permanent turning point in a hero's story, and the player continues on from that point as someone else.

Lore

Nyxorath, the Whispering Flame, has waited inside a cursed weapon in Vulture's Vineyard for longer than anyone living remembers, offering the same quiet, patient invitation to anyone who will listen. Whether that invitation is a curse, a mercy, or something else entirely is a question only the demon himself can answer, and he has not answered it yet.
