Lycanthropy

Lycanthropy is a Chronicle keyword. It marks a hero who carries the curse of the split -- a condition that places them between two natures simultaneously, neither fully one thing nor the other.

A hero with Lycanthropy is not simply cursed. They are changed. The split between their original nature and the animal they carry does not resolve. It persists, deepens, and makes them visible to things that pay attention to the boundaries between states of being.

How to Gain Lycanthropy

Lycanthropy is gained through specific encounters and events defined in adventure content. It cannot be purchased, chosen at character creation, or transferred between heroes.

The Lycanthropy keyword may have a stack count tracked alongside it. Some effects worsen as stacks increase.

Mechanical Effects

Lycanthropy affects how certain encounters, locations, and beings respond to the hero. Content across all adventures can check for the Lycanthropy keyword and trigger alternate outcomes when it is present.

Specific mechanical effects are defined by the adventure content where Lycanthropy is relevant.

Lore

The Invisible Ones have noted that lycanthropes exist in the same space they do: between states, never fully settled. This makes heroes carrying Lycanthropy unusually receptive to emotional influence. The Invisible Ones consider this interesting. Whether that attention is beneficial to the hero is a separate question.
