Obsidian Mirror
A hand-sized mirror of perfectly black obsidian, cool to the touch regardless of temperature. It has no frame. Its edges are smooth and slightly curved, as though it grew this way rather than being shaped. Looking into it does not show a reflection. It shows a color.
The color is different for everyone. The color is always accurate.
The Invisible Ones built this mirror as a bridge between their state of existence and the mortal world. They can see through it from the other side. They have been watching since the moment the hero picked it up.
Using the Obsidian Mirror
The mirror's influence grows the longer it stays in the hero's inventory. Track the number of days carried on the hero sheet.
Days 1-2: Observation The mirror is passive. Once per room the hero may look into it to learn their current dominant emotion as a color. This is informational only and has no mechanical effect.
Days 3-4: Resonance The dominant emotion begins to intensify. The hero gains a +1 bonus to rolls that align with their dominant emotion and a -1 penalty to rolls that oppose it:
| Color | Emotion | Bonus | Penalty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yellow | Joy | +1 Social rolls | -1 Body rolls |
| Blue | Sadness | +1 Mind rolls | -1 Luck rolls |
| Red | Rage | +1 Attack rolls | -1 Social rolls |
| Black | Fear | +1 Reflex rolls | -1 Attack rolls |
| White | Surprise | +1 Luck rolls | -1 Mind rolls |
| Green | Disgust | +1 Body rolls | -1 Social rolls |
| Purple | Contempt | +1 Mind rolls | -1 Reflex rolls |
Days 5+: Influence The hero gains the Observed status. The Invisible Ones are actively engaged. Once per adventure they may alter one of the hero's roll results by 1 in either direction. The hero does not choose when this happens and is not informed when it occurs.
The Observed status persists until the mirror is discarded, destroyed, or given away.
Discarding the Mirror
The hero may discard the Obsidian Mirror at any time during the Town Phase. It cannot be discarded mid-dungeon. When discarded, all effects end immediately. The mirror disappears.
Destroying the Mirror
The mirror cannot be destroyed by any standard means. Fire, force, and acid have no effect. Whether there is a way to destroy it permanently is left as a discovery for the hero to find.
