A round-faced Halfling with wire-rimmed spectacles perpetually pushed up on her forehead (never where she's actually looking), Hettie Pocketwhistle has run Ye Olde Curiosity Shop since before most of the current Lodge staff were born. Short and round, with a mess of curly grey hair always escaping its pins, she moves through her narrow hallway shop with the easy familiarity of someone who could find any item on her shelves blindfolded. Hettie can't sell so much as a button without telling you where it came from, who owned it last, and at least one detail that's almost certainly embellished. Ask her about any item on her shelves, from the curios and trinkets on the right wall to the faded antiques lining the left, and you'll get a five minute story whether you wanted one or not, most of them ending with "...or so I'm told, mind you." Regulars know to budget the extra time. New guests usually leave having bought something they didn't plan on, charmed as much by the story as the item itself.
Ye Olde Curiosity Shop
Hettie's shop is the long hallway connecting the Reception Desk to the Dining Room. Along the right wall she keeps a rotating collection of trinkets and jewelry, each one sold as one of a kind, a keepsake you won't find anywhere else, and priced to make sure of it. Along the left wall, beneath the big windows looking out over the front porch, sit the antiques, older pieces from the Lodge's earliest days that Hettie treats less like inventory and more like a small museum she happens to also sell from, complete with a hand-lettered card and a story for every single one.
