Whispering Axe
The murmur of the bar fades, just for a moment, replaced by something closer, something that seems to come from directly behind your ear.
"There you are," the voice says, warm and low, almost fond, like an old friend finally spotted across a crowded room. "I've been waiting so long for someone worth talking to."
You glance up. The axe hangs exactly where it always has, mounted above the counter, its edge dulled with age. Nobody else in the room reacts. Nobody else seems to hear a thing.
A small, quiet voice in the back of your own mind says this is a bad idea. Weapons don't talk. Weapons that talk are never good news.
"Don't go yet," the voice continues, almost laughing. "I only want to talk. What's the harm in that?"
