Corwin Ashby
Corwin Ashby is rarely seen without a battered journal tucked under one arm, filling page after page in handwriting too small for anyone else to read comfortably. Bookish and a little nervous, prone to pushing spectacles up his nose that don't actually need adjusting, Corwin has appointed himself the smartest of the pass's orphan kids, a title the others tolerate with obvious fondness. His facts are frequently, confidently wrong. His delivery never wavers.
He asks questions constantly, at every possible moment, including the worst ones, and collects small odd things, bugs, interesting stones, a bent nail he was sure was "important," to study later. He startles easily and hides behind whoever's biggest when anything sudden happens, journal clutched to his chest like it might protect him. Underneath the nerves, though, he's the one who actually thinks things through, and more than one of the pass's other children owes him for it.
