Dicey Dangers, The Creepy Creature of Vulture's Vineyard Game by Joel Hills

Whether the Stories Are True

Time-Icon.png The bar goes quiet in the specific way a bar goes quiet when a Halfling walks in and puts a coin on the counter, which is to say not quiet at all, but rearranged. Benches slide. Somebody who was leaving decides not to leave.

They have been having this argument for years, the regulars here, about whether the stories are true. You have heard the stories too. Your people did not start most of them and have never once bothered to correct them.

A wager goes up on the counter before anyone asks whether you want to take part.

Make a Body(2) check.

Success: You take it at your own pace, which is the trick nobody outside your people ever works out, and you are still upright and mid-sentence when the last challenger puts his forehead gently down on the wood. The pot comes to you, 60 (rc), the whole wager the room put up rather than argue with a Halfling about pacing, and the argument continues with fresh evidence.

Failure: You go down third, honorably, to considerable applause. Nobody takes your coin because nobody in this room considers that a thing you do to a guest, and the story of it improves every time it gets retold. No reward, no cost.
