You Know Which Bank the Vultures Won't Cross
The Whiterun River marks where the vine rows finally give out, and Landlubber reads the far bank the way everyone else reads a locked door, not impossible, just deliberate. The vultures never cross to the other side. You notice that before you notice anything else.
