Nestra Hollick
Nestra Hollick is Marra Vex's apprentice, and she apologizes for things that don't need apologizing for. Drop a tool, misjudge a measurement, hesitate half a second too long, and she's already saying sorry before anyone's said a word to her. It would be easy to mistake her for genuinely unsure of herself, and around people, sometimes she is. Around the work, she isn't. Watch her when she thinks nobody's paying attention and she moves like someone who actually knows what she's doing, steady hands, no wasted motion, the apology reflex nowhere in sight.
Marra doesn't coddle her. She corrects her plainly, the same flat, unbothered way she corrects everyone, and expects her to keep going without dwelling on it. Nestra hasn't quite learned to hear that as respect rather than criticism, but she keeps showing up anyway, which is more than Marra will say out loud counts for something.
Jorvan Quill has taken to describing himself, in passing and to anyone who'll listen, as personally training up the next generation of Vulture's Vineyard's craftsmen. He has never once spoken to Nestra. She finds this out eventually, on a bad day, and takes it about as well as you'd expect.
What she's actually anxious about, underneath the reflexive apologies, isn't something she's said out loud to anyone yet.
