Armondo Darksteel
Armondo Darksteel is a stout, weathered dwarf whose muscular frame and salt-and-pepper beard still carry the bearing of the soldier he once was, even years into retirement. A jagged scar runs along one forearm, a souvenir of a campaign he doesn't often talk about, but his deep-set eyes hold more mischief than menace these days, and his rough, calloused hands move with the same disciplined precision at a cutting board that they once did with a blade. He wears a traditional chef's apron over what's left of his old armor, cooking utensils hanging from his belt the way a soldier once carried tools of war. Armondo treats the prep table like a battlefield, no wasted motion, no wasted ingredients, and takes real pride in getting a dish exactly right the first time. But his discipline never crowds out his warmth: his laugh booms loud enough to carry over the clatter of pots, and he's quick to pull up a stool for anyone who looks like they need to sit and talk for a while. He punctuates nearly every sentence with "Dwa," his own dwarven twist on "Bro," and it's become something of a rallying cry in the kitchen, other cooks have started saying it back to him without meaning to. Every so often, usually late in a shift when the fires have burned low, his jokes quiet and his eyes go somewhere far away. Those who've worked with him long enough know better than to ask, and know to just let him deal the cards instead.
