Steward
Steward is a Chronicle keyword. It marks a hero who has been entrusted with the care of a place, a hero who is no longer just passing through, but who belongs somewhere and is answerable for it. Most adventurers own what they can carry. A Steward owns a door that opens for them, ground that knows their footsteps, and the quiet obligation that comes with both. It is one of the few honors an adventurer can earn that cannot be found in a chest or bought from a merchant.
How to Gain Steward
Steward is awarded through specific quests defined in adventure content. It cannot be purchased, chosen at character creation, or transferred between heroes.
In The Creepy Creature of Vulture's Vineyard, the Steward keyword and the stewardship of the Adventure Estates are earned through a quest.
Mechanical Effects
Content across all adventures can check for the Steward keyword and trigger alternate outcomes when it is present. A hero with Steward may travel to the property in their care whenever its location page allows it. In The Creepy Creature of Vulture's Vineyard, a Steward may travel South East from the Ancient Stone Arch to the Adventure Estates, whose own page describes the benefits of the estate.
Removing Steward
Steward is an earned honor and is permanent. It is not a curse and cannot be removed.
Lore
Small towns keep long memories, and a town like Vulture's Vineyard remembers who cared for what. Stewardship is not granted lightly in the mountains; land is scarce, winters are hard, and a property left untended rarely survives them. To be named Steward is to be told, in the town's quiet way: we expect to find you here next spring.
