Pets

A Pet is an animal companion that has chosen to travel at a Hero's side, earned during Hero Generation on a lucky Heritage Trait roll. Every Pet is loyal, familiar with its Hero's habits, and willing to share the road, but not every Pet is suited to squeezing through a dungeon doorway.

Unlike a Beast, a Pet is never encountered wandering the dungeon or wilderness at random. It is always a specific, named companion belonging to a specific Hero, met only at that Hero's side. What separates a Pet from every other Nature is loyalty rather than biology, and its stat block exists to resolve the moments it fights or defends alongside its Hero, not to threaten one.

Larger Pets stay behind in Town rather than follow their Hero underground. Horse, Stag, and Ram wait at the stable, the Lodge, or wherever their Hero left them, and rejoin the Hero the moment the party returns to Town.

A Pet that does accompany its Hero into the dungeon fights and defends alongside them in combat, using its own stats.

When a Pet uses a Threat Die, add 2 back into the Threat Die pool.

If a Pet dies, its Hero raises Stigma by 1, the same cumulative measure of loss that tracks a fallen Henchman.
